Overall Evaluation

Overall Evaluation

Now that I have successfully created and produced the DVD cover, label and the trailer, I am now going to be analysing my work and giving an overall evaluation on what things I think I did well on, what things didn't go well and the improvements that I would make next time .

DVD Cover

Firstly I am going to be analysing the DVD cover that I produced for my film idea. My opinion on the things that has worked well on the cover is that I think that everything combines really nicely and blends together. Another thing is that nothing is out of place and isn't just there to use up space. On the other one of the things that didnt work well as I thought was that there is a bit of space at the back and therefore I could have included ratings or commens abiout the film. The improvements that I would do next time is to explore my on the different effects and apply more to my work. Another improvement would be that

DVD Label

Now I am goign to be analysing the DVD label, the things that have worked well is that the label looks very professional. An alternative thing that has worked well on the DVD label is that again just like the cover everything compliments each other. One of the things that didn't work well was that the line underlining the title could be better and actaully be a pair of tyre tracks. The improvements that I would do next time is create more vector art images also use more of the filters that are available for you to use.

DVD Trailer

Finally I am now going to be looking at the one minute trailer I have produced. One of the things that works well within the trailer is that each clip runs smoothly from one clip to the next and therefore aren't any jumps or freezes. Another thing that works well is the way that the titles come into the trailer. One of the things that hasn't worked well within the trailer is that at the end it just appears saying 'Coming Summer 2013' and maybe should have had someone actulaly saying it aas it appears on the screen. The improvements that I would make next time using Adobe Premiere is use more if the transitions and use some effects to the audio. Another improvement would be that to experiment and use more of the tools availabe such as the 'Ripple Edit'.

With the trailer is was very important to get the right videos and ensure that they were at a highr resolution so therefore the video will be clear . I also had to ensure that the videos that i was including within the trailer would work well together.

In conclusion I am highly satisified in all three pieces of work that I have created and produced for the film 'The Pursuit'. Also that everything works well together and that I managed to create everything on time

Using the Pen Tool

Using the Pen Tool

Now that I have completed and watched the trailer I have noticed that the music for the trailer just appears and doesn’t gradually fade into the trailer as I wish to have.

I go to left hand panel and select the ‘Pen Tool’, I am using the ‘Pen Tool’ as this allows me to be able to select the parts that I wish to fade in.

With the ‘Pen Tool’ I then create two points on the line of the music track.

I then go back and select the ‘Selection Tool’ as this will allow me to be able to move the two points around I have just made.

I then move the points around so that the music then fades into the trailer instead of just appearing.

Adding transitions over clips

Adding transitions over clips

I am now going to be adding some transitions on to some of the clips within the trailer.

First of all I select the clip that I wish to add a transition too.

I then go to the ‘Effects’ tab and down to where it says ‘Video Transitions’. Within ‘Video Transitions’ there are many transitions to choose from.

After analysing all the transitions I have chosen to go with the transition ‘Slide’ as this transition suits the trailer the best.

I then drag and drop the transition onto the sequence in the position I wish to have it. Therefore this means that the transition has been successfully added on to the sequence.

Adding titles over clips

Adding titles over clips

Now that I have added the trimmed sections on to the sequence, I am now going to be adding titles over some of the clips.

First of all I make a folder ready for the titles to go into.

I then go to the top panel to where it says ‘Title’ then down to ‘New Title’. When I go to ‘New Title’ there a few options that I can select which is default still, default roll and default crawl. For this instance I need default still as I want my title to be still as will be adding affects.

After I have chosen ‘Default Still’ it then come up with a box about the width and height and also the name of the title. I keep width and height same and just change the title to a more appropriate name.

Once I have clicked on ‘OK’, it then comes up where I can start adding text that I wish to have on the trailer.

I then type what I wish to have on the trailer. The font that I have chosen to go with is ‘Lithos Pro’, this is because this font really compliments the trailer and the text looks quite professional too. I have chosen to go with the colour ‘blue’ as this is a colour I have used throughout even on the DVD label and case.

I then drag and drop the title into the ‘Titles’ folder.

I then place the title in the position I wish to have it on the sequence.

With the title that I have just placed on the sequence I wish to now add an effect, so I go to the table of ‘Effects’ where I can choose for many effects and transitions.

In this instance I go to video transition as I want the title to have movement when it appears on the screen.

After analysing the transitions I have chosen to go with ‘Slash Slide’ as the effect goes well with the trailer.

I then drag and drop that effect on the title section to add this effect.

I then repeat the previous steps for the titles that appear at the end of the trailer.

Trimming Videos in Adobe Premiere

Trimming Videos in Adobe Premiere

Now that I have all the videos, images and audio imported I now need to start trimming the videos to the section that I wish to have in my one minute trailer for ‘The Pursuit’. Down below shows you how I trimmed the videos.

First of all I select the video I wish to trim within Adobe Premiere.

I then drag and drop the video on to the sequence timeline.

Once I have placed the video on the sequence I then go the left hand side panel to the ‘Razor Tool’, I am using the ‘Razor Tool’ as this easily splits up the video into more easier manageable sections.

I then use the ‘Razor Tool’ in order to split up the video into sections.

Some of the sections that I have split up with the ‘Razor Tool’ I do not need at the moment so I select the ‘Selection Tool’ in order to delete these sections from the sequence.  I am using the ‘Selection Tool’ as with this tool is it very easy to select clips that you want to move or delete.

I then click on the section I wish to delete and right click and go to ‘Cut’.

As you can see the section now has been successfully deleted.

I then repeat the previous steps until I then have the section that I wish to have in my trailer.

However with this section the there is also the audio part but I wish to not have the audio included so firstly I select the section and then right click and click ‘Unlink’, this will then separate the video with the audio and therefore I will then be able to delete the audio and just keep the video part.

Now that I have deleted the audio, I am now just left with the video in which is what I wish to have.

I then just drag and drop the section that I have trimmed into the ‘Clips Folder’ and rename to a suitable name.

Down below is an alternative way in order to trim clips within Adobe Premiere.

Firstly I select the video I wish to clip and drag to the left screen to preview. With this video I want to clip the first section as it starts to play.

As the video starts to play I pause and go to the beginning of the video and click on the ‘Mark In’ icon. This then places a marker for the start of the trim.

I then click on the ‘Mark Out’ icon and this then places a marker to end the trim of the video.

Once I have done this a green bar appears on the video which highlights the section I wish to trim.

I now want to drag and drop the section into the folder but I have a few options. The first option is just simply drag and drop the video into folder as previously done with the other trimmed clip.

Another option is that I can click on this icon and this will then just drag and drop just the video.

The final option is just to drag and drop the audio of the section.

The option I chose was just the video only so I click on the icon and then drag and drop the trimmed section into the correct folder I wish to store it in. I rename the section to a suitable name. I know that I have successfully copied just the video as the icon next to the file name just shows the purple clip image.

I then use the two trimming methods to get all the sections I need for the trailer. Now I can start placing them on the sequence to start producing the one minute trailer for ‘The Pursuit’.
